Learn more: Strength
If you are over 30 years old, there is an invisible process in your body that you don’t know is happening until …
- Weight gain is easier and weight loss harder
- Injuries happen more frequently
- Joints are achy
- Stress incontinence occurs more often
- Blood sugar starts creeping up
- Clothes don’t fit as well
- Balance isn’t as good as it used to be
- Getting up off the floor is a chore (or impossible)
- Lifting heavy objects is a strain
We attribute this to "normal” aging. However, it is not normal … nor is it inevitable. These are signs of muscle mass loss. It happens gradually over decades and speeds up in dieting, in women during menopause, and after just 24 hours of bed rest. Cardio does not preserve it and neither does a typical active lifestyle.
You might know strength training is important to slow these changes. Maybe you want to do some but don’t know what to do or you’ve tried programs and only ended up with muscle soreness or injuries. You might just be waiting until you have more time and energy to put into it. Don’t you wish you could get the benefits of strength training in a way that makes your body feel better and you could stick with?
For years, I have been looking for a strength training program I could recommend to clients wanting the same thing. I searched high and low, but didn’t find anything
- science-based, rather than full of myths
- designed for improving function in life, not athletics
- that did not require a gym membership
- simple enough to stick with
So, I created this course!
Designed for strength for daily life. With exercise, you get what you train for. If you are not an athlete or military professional, you don’t need to train like one (whew!). This course trains your whole body to move more efficiently with less strain and wear and tear in daily life.
Based on the science of how your body is designed to be strong. Too many programs are based on myths like spot reducing, unnecessarily draining time, energy, and motivation. Rest assured, there are no crunches or burpees in this program! Learn to use your core (including your pelvic floor) the way it was designed (without getting on the floor), reduce pain and injury, and preserve your function and metabolism even as you age. If you feel you can't exercise because of pain, modifications are given at every step allowing you to work with you body in the way it can get stronger now .
Sustainable. When you train for what you really want, strength training is motivating so it is sustainable. If you are like most people, you have demands on your time and fitting in exercise is a daily challenge. This course is designed to be efficient without sacrificing quality because it is based on the science of movement and motivation.
Broken down into four simple steps, with easy–to-follow videos packed with science-based, yet user-friendly information, and downloadable handouts, you build a foundation of strength and motivation right into your lifestyle, whether you like to exercise at a gym or at home. The only equipment you need is dumbbells, a step stool or the bottom step of a staircase, a sturdy chair, and a wall. In as little as 15 minutes twice a week, you will get stronger and feel more confident in your ability to stay strong.
Life is complicated enough. Being strong to enjoy life is simple!
Inspired by the incredible power of exercise to improve health, I began my career by obtaining a masters in clinical exercise physiology. Over the years I have worked as part of health care teams, prescribing exercise for people with obesity, disabilities, heart disease, diabetes, depression, arthritis, and many other health concerns. I have built a toolbox for overcoming these challenges and helping clients improve health and quality of life through movement.
After personally experiencing the power of combining mindfulness and movement, sixteen years ago I added yoga and mindfulness meditation to my professional training.
I eventually realized, though, that all the great news about how movement and mindfulness improves health was not enough to inspire sustainable motivation. I decided to dive into the science of motivation and formally gain skills based on this science. Now, as a certified health and wellness coach, I’ve added tools to inspire lasting healthy changes.
My mission is end the struggle with exercise motivation and provide approaches to exercise that leave you feeling whole, for your whole-life!
